Ottawa Gets Sneak Peak at City’s Newest Community

Wateridge Village is now ready to welcome new home buyers

OTTAWA − Ottawa now has its first look at Wateridge Village, the city’s most exciting new residential community.

Media was invited to a preview event and ribbon cutting ceremony today. In addition to a joint opening ceremony between Canada Lands Company and the Algonquins of Ontario, initial phase builders Claridge Homes, Tartan Homes, and Uniform Development representatives and city officials were also on hand to mark the occasion. The event included a first look at two of three sales centres in the initial phase of the project. The entire build-out will take more than 15 years, with multiple phases to complete.

Two builder sales centres are now open to the public from Tartan Homes and Uniform Development, with the third from Claridge Homes opening on December 17, 2017, providing potential buyers the opportunity to peruse the initial slate of homes available at Wateridge Village. The sales centres are located on Hemlock Road, south-east of Aviation Parkway.

“We are exceptionally proud of this project,” said Jean Lachance, Senior Director of Real Estate for Canada Lands Company. “Literally years of community consultation, municipal partnership and an innovative agreement with the Algonquins of Ontario were part of the process in reaching today’s milestone. This collaborative spirit is exactly what we bring to a project when we get involved. Wateridge Village is truly a great example of the many benefits a well planned community can bring to a city.”

Robert Potts, Principal Negotiator and Senior Legal Counsel for the Algonquins of Ontario (AOO) stated, “The partnership between Canada Lands Company and the Algonquins of Ontario is a shining example of what we mean by reconciliation.  This partnership is providing the AOO with a direct financial interest in the development of Wateridge Village while also presenting opportunities for the commemoration of the history and connection of the Algonquin people to the site.”

Mr. Potts added, “Through this partnership with CLC, the AOO have also formed a joint venture agreement with Tartan Homes for the development of a mix of semi-detached units and townhouse units in Phase I of Wateridge Village. These types of partnerships are extraordinary in nature and will strengthen future economic development opportunities for the Algonquin people.” Mr. Potts stated that the AOO and Canada Lands Company are also committed to providing opportunities for qualified Algonquin companies to provide services to support the redevelopment of the site.

Wateridge Village is currently undergoing major construction as servicing work is already well underway and new home construction set to begin in 2017.

This 310-acre sustainable new community minutes from downtown will eventually be home to approximately 10,000 people.  Wateridge Village, overlooking the Ottawa River, will honour the rich history of the Algonquins of Ontario and the military through commemoration.  The site will be home to design-forward residences, retail and office space, unparalleled amenities, beautiful parks and trails.
